Tom's Topical Tips

I am not a great fan of gardening books in general, Hessayon being a brilliant exception, very simple to follow and not full of unnecessary information.

However, one book I do have, and which I think most people would love, is "The complete old wives' lore for gardeners" (isbn 0-370-31379-8) by Bridget and Maureen Boland. Sadly I suspect it is out of print, but somewhere second hand copies must be available. It is amusing and a good read even if you are not a gardener. Do try and find a copy, I promise you will not regret it. Tom

The weeds will now be growing quickly so get the hoe out!

Crop of the Month

Spring Cabbage

If you planted out some spring cabbage last autumn they should be ready. Sow next year's crop in modules in June or July and plant out in August or September.

Varieties: Pixie, Durham Elf, Spring Hero and many more.
